Ifon-vehicleregenerationisunsuccessfulatremovingsoot
fromtheDPF,runasecondregeneration.Ifbothregeneration
attemptsareunsuccessful,theDPFmayneedtoberemoved
fromthevehicleandbecleanedwiththeappropriatemachinery
andprocesses.
AshresidueintheDPFcomesprimarilyfromfuelandoil
additivesandwillnotburnorpassthroughtheDPF .Ashresidue
accumulatesveryslowlyintheDPFbutmusteventuallybe
removedtopreventexcessiveexhaustbackpressure.Ifthe
DPFneedstohavenonregenerablesootortheashresidue
removed,pleasetakethevehicletoanInternationaldealer.
DriveShafts
Attheregularlubricationinterval,checkuniversaljoints,slip
joints,slipjointboot,andcarrierbearingsforanyevidenceof
wearorlooseness.Shoulddriveshaftvibrationsoccur,stopthe
vehicleimmediatelytoavoidpossiblehazardousconsequences
ordamagetoothercomponents.
Suspension(AirandSteelSprings)
CAUTION
Topreventpropertydamage,donotadjustair
suspensionheighttoanysettingotherthanthe
speciedsetting.Alteringtheheightsetting
willchangethedrivelineangleandmayresult
incomponentdamage,suchastransmission
componentdamage.
Verifydriveaxleairsuspensionheightatengineoilchange
intervals.SeetheappropriateServiceManual.
NOTE:Suspensionalignmentmustbemaintainedatall
times.
NOTE:RefertoSECTION8—MaintenanceIntervalsand
SpecicationsforproperU-bolttorquevalues.
Periodically:
•Checkconditionofspringleavesforevidenceoffatigue,
bending,orbreakage.
•Checkconditionofsuspensionmountingbracketsand
bushings.
•Checkthatsuspensionmounts(suchasbrackets,
bushings,andfasteners)aretight.
•Checkthattorquerodmountingfastenersaretight.
•CheckU-boltsasfollows:
1.Afterthechassishasbeenoperatingunder
loadfor1,000miles(1,600km)orsixmonths,
whichevercomesrst,theU-boltnutsmustbe
retorqued.
2.Thereafter,theU-boltnutsmustberetorqued
every50,000miles(80,000km).
