SECTION8—MAINTENANCEINTERVALSANDSPECIFICATIONS
LubricationandMaintenanceIntervals
Allnewvehiclesarefactorylubricated.Oncethevehicleis
inoperation,regularlubricationandmaintenanceintervals
(basedonthetypeofserviceandroadconditions)mustbe
establishedandperformed.Loadweight,vehiclespeed,road
conditions,andweatherconditionsallcontributetolubrication
frequency.Performingthoroughlubricationandmaintenance
atthespeciedintervalswillensureanoutstandingvehiclelife
andwillreduceoveralloperatingexpense.
TheLUBRICATIONANDMAINTENANCEINTERVALCHART
containsanextensivelistofcomponentsandsystems.Listed
itemsandsystemsmustberegularlyinspected,serviced,and
/orreplacedtomaximizevehicleavailabilityandminimize
unexpectedfailures.Recommendedsynchronizedintervalsare
shownforeachitem.Thischartcanserveasaconvenient
one-stopreferencetoresearchmostmaintenanceneeds.
Onlylubricantsofsuperiorquality,suchasFleetrite
®
lubricants,
shouldbeused.Theuseofinferiorproductswillreducethe
servicelifeofthevehicleorresultinfailureofitscomponents.

lubricantsfor
optimumperformance.
MaintenanceIntervals
Maintenanceintervalsprovidedinthismanualarefornormal
highwayandenvironmentalserviceconditions.
Theseintervalsmaybeexpressedinmiles(kilometers),hours
ofoperation,and/ormonthsofoperation.Itisimportanttonote
thatinhighdutycycletypesofoperationand/orwhereoperating
conditionsareextremelysevere(suchasindeepwater,mud,or
unusuallydustyconditions),thevehiclemayrequirelubrication
muchmorefrequentlythanspeciedinthismanual.
NOTE:ThemaintainerisadvisedtorefertotheOriginal
EquipmentComponentManufacturerforthemost
up-to-datespecicserviceinstructions,required
capacities,andlubricatingoils.
Themaintainermaywishtosynchronizeenginerelated
itemswithotherlubrication/maintenanceintervalsin
ordertoreducedowntime,eventhoughtherecommended
intervalsintheEngineOperationandMaintenanceManual
maybelonger.
Thelong-haul,short-haul,andsevereserviceintervalsare
designedtocoordinatemaintenanceactivitiesandtoprovide
theappropriatelevelsforservicingcomponents.Following
theserviceintervalsminimizesthenumberoftimesperyear
thatthevehiclemustbebroughtintotheshop.Inaddition
tothelong-haul,short-haul,andsevereserviceintervals,the
SpecialServiceIntervalcolumnisprovidedforitemsthatneed
infrequentservicing.Inmostcases,theseserviceintervals
representtherecommendedmaximumintervals.Forsome
components,however,themanufacturer’srecommended
maintenanceintervalsmayhavebeenshortenedtoallow
synchronizationwithothermaintenancetasks.
