MANAGING THE MLM DATABASE
TheMLMdatabasecontainstheusageandmediahealthhistory,aswellas
thePostScanverificationdata,foralloftheMLM‐enabledcartridgesin
yourlibrary.ItalsocontainstheDriveLifecycleManagementdataforallof
thedrivesinyourlibrary(seeMonitoringDriveHealthUsingDLMon
page273).
DecidingwhenandhowoftenyoubackuptheMLMdatabasedependson
manyfactors,includinghowoftentapesareloadedintoadrive.
Ifallofthetapesareloadedintodrivesfrequently,theMLMdatabase
canberebuiltrelativelyquickly.Thedatabasecanbebackedupless
frequently.
Ifmanyofthetapesremaininthelibrarywithoutbeingloadedintoa
driveforalongperiodoftime,oriftapesareexportedandstayoutside
ofthelibraryforalongperiodoftime,rebuildingtheMLMdatabase
cantakealongtime.BackuptheMLMdatabasemorefrequently.
Back Up the MLM and DLM Databases
Basedonyourenvironment,determinehowfrequentlybackupsare
needed,thenusethefollowingstepstocreateabackup.Youcanchooseto
savethebackuptoaUSBdeviceorsenditasanemailattachmenttoa
previouslyconfiguredmailrecipient.
1. Useyourstoragemanagementsoftwaretostopallbackuporrestore
operationsonthelibrary.
2. Logintothelibraryasauserwithsuperuseroradministrator
privileges.
3. IfyouwanttosavethebackupoftheMLMandDLMdatabasestoa
USBdevice,connecttheUSBdevicetotheLCMandallowtimeforthe
devicetomount;otherwise,skiptothenextstep.
Backing up the MLM and DLM databases requires the library to be idle.
