Storing Cartridges
Whenthecartridgesareoutsideofthelibrary,SpectraLogicrecommends
storingtheminTeraPack
®
magazineswithdustcovers.
Storingandhandlingcartridgesinmagazineshelpstoeliminateerrors
resultingfrommishandlingindividualcartridges,whichistheleading
causeofcartridgedamage.Anoptionalplasticdustcoversnapsontothe
magazinetoprotectthecartridges.
Wheneveryouremovecartridgesfromyourlibrary,besuretostorethem
properlytomaximizearchivallifeandensuredataintegrity.Followthese
guidelinesforpropercartridgestorage:
Storecartridgesinasuitableenvironment(seeLTOCartridge
Specificationsonpage503).
Keepthestoragelocationasfreeofairborneparticulatesaspossible.To
eliminateobvioussourcesofparticulates,donotpermitanyoneto
smoke,eat,ordrinknearthestoragearea,anddonotstorecartridges
nearacopierorprinterthatmayemittonerandpaperdust.
Storecartridgeswiththewrite‐protectswitchintheprotectedposition
(seePreparingCartridgesforUseonpage194).
Storecartridgesassoonaspossibleafteryouremovethemfromthe
library.Immediatestoragehelpsavoidmanyoftheconditionsthatcan
damagetapes,suchastemperatureandhumidityfluctuations,
particulatecontamination,andexcessivehandling.
IfyouplantoshipaTeraPackmagazine,makesurethatyouhavea
propershippingcontainerandthatyouuseadequatepackingmaterial.
TheTeraPackcarryingcasesavailablefromSpectraLogicaredesigned
forsafelytransportingTeraPackmagazinesoffsiteandarecompatible
withIronMountain.
