Deleting an Encryption Key from the Library
Overview BlueScaleEncryptionStandardEditiononlysupportsstoringa
singleencryptionkeyinthelibrary.Youmustfirstdeletethekeycurrently
storedinthelibrarybeforeyoucancreateanewkeyandassignittooneor
morepartitions(seeAssigntheEncryptionKeytoaPartitiononpage305).
BlueScaleEncryptionProfessionalEditionsupportsstoringupto
30encryptionkeysinthelibrary.If,inaccordancewithyourkeyretirement
policies,anencryptionkeyisnolongertobeused,youcanremovethekey
fromthelibrary.
Usethefollowingstepstodeleteakey:
1. Accesstheencryptionfeature(seeLogIntotheEncryptionFeatureon
page284).
2. Exportatleastonecopyofthekeyandstoreitinasafelocation(see
ExportanEncryptionKeyonpage309).
3. Iftheencryptionkeyyouplantodeleteisassignedtoapartition,either
astheprimarykeyorasadecryption‐onlykey,editthepartitionto
disableencryption(seeDisablingEncryptioninaPartitiononpage323
orassignadifferentkey(seeAssigntheEncryptionKeytoaPartition
onpage305).
Note: Ifyoudeleteanencryptionkeythatisassignedtoapartitionyou
arenotabletoencryptordecryptdatainthatpartitionuntilyou
reimportthekey.
4. FromtheEncryptionConfigurationscreen,clickDeletenexttothekey
youwanttoremovefromthelibraryandrespondtotheconfirmation
screenstodeletethekey.
Make sure that you export a copy of the existing key before you delete it. You need
a copy of the exported key and its password to import the key back into the library
and restore data that was encrypted with the key.
Backup files of the library configuration include any encryption keys that were
stored in the library at the time the file was created.
