Thefollowingsectionsdescribethehigh‐availabilityfeaturesofthelibrary.
Thesefeatureshelpkeepthelibraryoperatingevenintheeventofa
componentfailureoranetworkconnectionfailure.
Global Spare Drives
TheBlueScaleGlobalSparefeatureprovidesawaytoremotelysubstitute
anavailableFibreChannelLTO‐4orlatergenerationdriveinthelibrary
forafaileddriveofthesametype.Thefeatureletsyouconfigurean
installeddriveasadesignatedspareforotherdrivesinthelibrary.This
drivecanthenbesubstitutedforafaileddriveinanypartitionthatis
configuredtousetheGlobalSparedrive.Whenadrivefails,yousimply
logintotheBlueScalewebinterfacefromanylocation,selecttheGlobal
Spareoptionforthefaileddrive,andcontinuenormaloperations.Youcan
thenphysicallyreplacethefaileddriveatyourconvenience.SeeAssigna

Redundant Power Supplies
Thelibraryrequiresone5/12VDCpowersupplyinordertooperate.
Installingasecondpowersupply,whichincludesanadditionalACpower
input,providesN+1redundancyandfailoverprotection.Thepower
supplymodulesneededfortheN+1powerredundancyconfigurationare
anoptionthatyoucanpurchaseseparatelyorwhenyouorderthelibrary
(seePowerSuppliesonpage489).
Ifaredundantpowersupplyisused,theACpowerconnectorsforeach
powersupplymoduleshouldbeconnectedtoindependentACbranch
circuits,whichallowsforfailoverintheeventofapowerfailureinoneof
thecircuits.
