DELETING A PARTITION
Overview Whenyoudeleteapartition,thedrivesandslotspreviously
assignedtothatpartitioncanbereassignedtoanexistingpartitionorused
tocreateanewpartition.
Preparation Beforedeletinganexistingpartition,makesureyouaddress
thefollowing:
SpectraLogicstronglyrecommendsbackingupthelibrary
configuration,eithertoaUSBdeviceorasanattachmenttoanemail
senttoapreviouslyconfiguredmailrecipient,beforeyoudeletea
partition.
Makesurethatnoneofthedrivesinthepartitioncontainsacartridge.If
necessary,unloadthecartridgesfromthedrivesusingyourstorage
managementsoftware.
Ifyouplantodeleteastoragepartition,useyourstoragemanagement
softw are toejectallofthecartridgesfromthestoragepartitiontoensure
thatyoudonotinadvertentlymixcartridgesfromonestoragepartition
withthosefromanother.After thecartridgesareejected,exportthem
fromthelibrary asdescribedinExportingorExchangingCartridgeson
page207.
Ifyouplantodeleteastoragepartitionanditisconfiguredtouse
GlobalSpares,editthepartitionanddeselectallofthedrivesthatare
designatedasGlobalSparesforthepartition(seeAssignaGlobalSpare
Driveonpage174).
Ifyouplantodeleteastoragepartitionanditisconfiguredtouse
BlueScaleencryption,makesurethatyouexporttheBlueScale
encryptionkeyforanycartridgesthatwereinthepartition(see
ExportingandProtectingEncryptionKeysonpage307).The
encryptionkeyisrequiredifyouimportthecartridgesintoanother
partitioninordertoaccessthedataonthecartridges atalate r date.
Ifyouplantodeleteacleaningpartition,editanystoragepartitionsthat
usethecleaningpartitiontodisassociatethecleaningpartitionfromthe
storagepartition(see
AllocateSlotsandDrivesonpage175).
After the partition is deleted, any cartridges in the slots that were assigned to the
partition are not accessible until the slots are assigned to another partition.
