CONFIGURING LIBRARY USERS
Overview Everylibraryuserisassignedtoagroup,eachwithitsownset
ofpre‐definedlibraryprivileges(alsoknownaspermissions).These
privilegesdeterminethetypeofoperationsausercanperformonthe
library.Theseprivilegesaretheprimarymeansforconfiguringlibrary
security.
User Privilege Requirements Onlyauserwithsuperuserprivilegescan
add,modify,ordeleteusers.
Understanding User Groups and Security
Beforeyoubegin,readthissectiontounderstandthethreetypesofuser
groupsandwhattypesofprivilegeseachhas.Bydefault,passwordsare
notsetforanyofthethreedefaultusers.
Note: Ifencryptionisenabled,thereisanadditional,separatepassword
toaccesstheencryptionfeatures.SeePasswordsandOther

Thefollowingtabledescribesthethreeusergroupsandtheprivilegesof
each.Bydefault,passwordsarenotrequiredforanyofthethreedefault
users.

Superuser Controlsallaspectsofthelibrary’sconfigurationand
operation,includingdefiningotherlibraryusersand
assigningthemtoauser‐privilegegroup.
Notes:
Thelibraryrequiresaminimumofonesuperuser.You
cannotdeletethelastmemberoftheSuperusergroup.
Onlyauserwithsuperuserprivilegescanadd,modify,
ordeleteusers.
Onlyauserwithsuperuserprivilegescanaccessand
configureencryptionfeatures.

Administrator Configuresandusesthelibrary.Withtheexceptionof
creatingormodifyinglibraryusersandaccessingthe
Encryptionfeatures,usersintheAdministratorgroup
havethesameprivilegesasusersintheSuperusergroup.

Operator Performsday‐to‐dayoperations.Usersassignedtothe
Operatorgroupcanmove,import,andexportmedia,but
cannotaccessthemoresensitivelibraryoperationssuchas
configuration,diagnostics,andsecurity.
