IDENTIFYING DRIVES AND PARTITIONS IN THE LIBRARY
Thefollowingsectionsdescribemethodsforidentifyingthepartitionsand
drivesinthelibrary,boththroughtheBlueScaleuserinterfaceandfromthe
hostsoftwareandSANmanagementtools.
Identify the Drives in the Library
Thelibraryassignsunique,location basedBlueScaleidentifiersandserial
numberstoeachdrive inthelibrary.TheBlueScaleidentifiersappearonth e
DrivesandDriv eDetailsscreensaswellasinsystemmessages.Inaddition,
eachFibreChannelorSASdriveisassignedalocationbas edWorldWide
Name(WWN).ForFibreChanneldrives,theWWNcanbeusedtoidentify
thedriv esonthehostFibreChannelarbitratedlooporfabric.
BlueScale Drive Identifiers
Thefirmwareinthedrivesledthathouseseachdriveassignsanidentifier
tothedrivebasedonitslocationinthelibrary.Thisidentifierisshownin
theBlueScaleuserinterface.Becausetheidentifierislocationbased,it
remainsconstantevenifthephysicaldriveisreplacedbyanewdrive.The
newdriveassumesthelocationbasedidentifier,makingdrivereplacement
completelytransparenttothestoragemanagementsoftware.
