5.6.14 Adjusting Rail Axis Drive Pinion Engagement
If there is too much backlash between the drive pinion and the drive rack, the pinion engagement needs
to be adjusted. Use the following procedure:
1) Follow the above procedure for Removing the Cover. Do not remove Central Unit from Rail
Track.
2) Loosen four screws mounting Drive Motor to Bottom Plate. Use a wrench to hold the lock nuts
on bottom of Central Unit. Mounting holes are slotted.
3) Slide the Drive Motor until Drive Pinion lightly touches Drive Rack. Do not adjust pinion with
too much pressure into rack, it will cause binding, rough motion, and motor wear.
4) Tighten screws holding Drive Motor to Bottom Plate. Re-check motion for smoothness.
5) Power on the CNC and test the Rail Axis motion before re-assembling.
