4.18 Edge Starting
This function allows edge starting for cutting thicker materials. It is enabled by the Edge Starting
parameter in the Control Parameters screen. When enabled, the operator is prompted to move the
torch to the plate edge prior to each pierce.
To use this function, set the Edge Starting parameter to “1”, then locate and start running a program
normally in the Auto Mode. When the machine arrives at the pierce point, machine motion will stop,
and the following dialog will appear.
Figure 70: Input Pierce Number
Use the Upand Downkeys to highlight the desired option. If flame cutting, preheat the plate
first. When ready, press the START key or the ENTER key to select the desired operation.
The three options are explained below:
1) PIERCE HERE
Select this option to proceed with a normal pierce at the programmed pierce location.
2) MOVE PIERCE LOCATION
Selecting this option give the operator the opportunity to move the torch to the edge of the plate, then
start the process at that location. Once process is started, the machine will cut from that location back
to the pierce point, and then continue cutting the program as normal.
3) NO PIERCE
Use this option if you need to skip piercing at this time.
