couldcauselossofvehiclecontrol.
NOTE:Retreadtiresarenotrecommendedforuseon
steeringaxlesoftrucks.
1.Shockabsorber:Checkforcracks,leaks,andmissing
orbrokenmountingboltsorbushings.
2.Brakechamberandhoses:Checktoseethatthe
brakechambersarenotcrackedordamaged,andare
securelymounted.Checkforbroken,looseormissing
parts.Checkforcracked,wornorfrayedhoses,andfor
securecouplings.
3.Frame:Checkforcracksorbendsinframe.Makesure
therearenoloose,cracked,bent,brokenormissing
crossmembersorcrossmemberfasteners.
4.Steeringlinkage:Inspectconnectinglinks,arms,and
rodsforworn,damaged,loose,ormissingcomponents.
5.Springsuspension:Checkconditionofspringforcracks,
breaks,orshifting.Inspectspringhangerfasteners,
shackles,U-bolts,andnutsforwear,damage,and
tightness.
6.Slackadjuster:Checkslackadjusterandchamber
pushrodtravel.Whenpulledbyhand,pushrodshould
notmovemorethanapproximately1inch(25mm).
Anglebetweenpushrodandadjusterarmshouldbe
approximately90degreeswhenbrakesareapplied.
7.Brakelininganddrum:Withbrakesreleased,check
toseethatbrakelinings(wherevisible)arenot
wornexcessivelythin[lessthan1/4inch(6mm)]or
contaminatedbylubricant.
8.Tire:Checktreaddepthandtireination,andnoteif
treadisevenlyworn.Minimumtreaddepthis4/32inch
(3mm)onsteeringtires.Lookforcutsorotherdamage
tothetreadorsidewalls.Seeifvalvecapsandstems
aremissing,brokenordamaged.
9.Hub:Checkforobviousleaksonoutsideorinsideof
wheel.Verifycorrectoillevelinhub.
10.Wheelandlugnuts:Checkfordamagedorbentwheel.
Checktoseethatalllugnutsarepresentandnotloose
(lookforrusttrailsaroundnuts).Ensurethatnocracks
ordamagearepresentatwheelmountholes.
