Then, the camshaft sprocket lines should be lined
up as shown in the following illustration.

Position the rocker arm shaft with the notches on
top.

Install NEW rocker arm shaft screws no. 8.
Torque as per following procedure:
CAUTION: This assembly uses stretch screws.
As the screws have been stretched from the
previous installation, it is very important to use
new screws at assembly. Failure to replac
e
screws and to strictly follow the torque proce-
dure may cause screws to loosen and lead to
engine damage.

– Torque screws to 20 N•m (177 lbf•in).
– Finish tightening screws turning an additional
90° rotation with a torque angle gauge.

CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR
NOTE: Although it is not necessary to position
crankshaft to TDC for disassembly, it is a good
practice to do it, as a troubleshooting step, to
know before disassembly if valve timing was ap-
propriate.
Removal
Lock crankshaft with crankshaft locking tool
(P/N 529 035 821), refer to CRANKSHAFT LOCK-
ING in ENGINE BLOCK section.
Remove:
– valve cover (refer to CHAIN TENSIONER RE-
MOVAL in ENGINE BLOCK section)
