Drive World Wide Names
Aspartofprovidingnetworkconnectivity,thedrivesledfirmwareassigns
alocation‐basedWorldWideName(WWN)fortheFibreChannelorSAS
tapedriveithouses.ThisWWNisdisplayedontheDriveDetailsscreen
andcanbeusedbythehostsoftwaretoaddressthedrive.Becausethis
WWNislocation‐based,itremainsconstantevenifadriveisreplacedbya
differentoneofthesametype.Thenewdriveassumesthelocation‐based
BlueScaleidentifierandWWN.
Notes: ThefourthdigitintheWWNindicatesthedrivebaywherethe
driveisinstalled.
TheWWNforFibreChanneldrivesisactuallytheWWPNfor
PortAonthedriv e sled.Ifthedrivesledhastwoports,the
WWPNforportBisth esameastheoneforportAexceptthat
theseconddigitfromtheleftis2insteadof1.
TheWWNforSAS driv esisactuallyth eSCSIportidentifier
forPortAonthedrivesled.LiketheFibreChannelWWN,this
identifierisassigned bythedevicemanufacturerand is
typically world‐wideunique.SASde vicesusetheseport
identifierstoaddresscommunic ation stoeachother.
