13. Confirmthattheencryptionkeywascorrectlyexported.
IfyouexportedtheencryptionkeytoaUSBdevice—Immediately
confirmthattheencryptedkeycopiedcorrectlybyclickingCheck
Key Filesandfollowinganyprompts.Ifdesired,saveorprintthe
CheckKeyFilesreportforanauditrecordshowingthattheUSB
devicewasreadable,andthatthedestinationkeymatchedthe
sourcekey.UsethestepsinVerifytheExportedEncryptionKeyto
provideasecondconfirmation.
Iftheconfirmationindicatesthekeydidnotcopycorrectly,delete
alldatafromtheUSBdevicesothatnotraceofthefailedexportfile
remains,thenexportthekeyagainusingadifferentUSBdevice,
beginningwithStep2onpage309.
Ifyouexportedtheencryptionkeyusingemail—Confirmthe
receiptoftheemailwiththeattachmentbycontactingtheuserto
whomyousenttheencryptedkeyfile.Havethemconfirmthatthe
emailattachmentcontainsakeyfileasdescribedinVerifythe
ExportedEncryptionKey.
Verify the Exported Encryption Key
Afterexportinganencryptionkey,verifythattheexportwassuccessfulas
soonaspossible.
When Saved to a USB Device
1. PlugtheUSBdeviceintoacomputerthatisnotconnectedtothelibrary.
2. ExaminethecontentsoftheUSBdevicetoverifythatitcontainsafile
called
name.bskifyouexportedthekeyasasinglefileorname.bssif
youexportedthekeyasashare,where
nameisthemonikeryou
assignedtothekeywhenitwascreated.
Makesurethatthefileismorethan0bytesinsize.Ifthefilemeetsthese
requirements,theencryptionkeywassuccessfullyexportedandis
usable.
3. StoretheUSBdeviceinasafelocation.
