Requirements for Importing Keys Split into M-of-N Shares Ifyouhave
BlueScaleProfessionalEditionandyouexportedtheencryptionkeyas
M‐of‐Nshares,thenMsharesarerequiredinordertoimportanencryption
keyintothelibrary.SeeExportasM‐of‐NSharesonpage308for
informationaboutusingtheM‐of‐Nsharesoption.
KeysthataresplitintosharescanonlybeimportedfromUSBdevices;they
cannotbeuploadedthroughtheBlueScalewebinterface.Iftheshareswere
sentasemailattachments,eachsharemustbecopiedtoaseparateUSB
deviceinordertoimportthekey.
Forexample,ifyouselectthe2‐of‐3optionandexportedthekeytoUSB
devices,twoofthethreeUSBdevices,alongwiththeencryptionkey
password,areneededtoimportthekey.
Use a Key Stored in the Library
Iftheencryptionkeyusedtoencryptthedataiscurrentlystoredinthe
library,usethefollowingstepstodecryptandrestoredata.
Note: Ifthedatawasnotencryptedusingthekeycurrentlystoredin
thelibrary,thelibrarypromptsyouwiththemonikerofthekey
thatisrequiredtodecryptthedata.Youmustimportthekeyas
describedinImporttheRequiredKeyIntotheLibraryon
page318beforethedatacanberestored.
1. IfyouselectedSecureInitialization,accesstheencryptionfeature(see
LogIntotheEncryptionFeatureonpage284).
2. Ifnecessary,importthecartridgescontainingthedatatobedecrypted
intothelibrary(seeImportingCartridgesonpage198).
3. Ifthepartitioncontainingthecartridgesdoesnotcurrentlyhavethe
requiredencryptionkeyassignedtoit,modifythepartitionas
describedinAssigntheEncryptionKeytoaPartitiononpage305.
Note: Ifyouassignedtherequiredpasswordtothepartitionasan
additionalkey,youdonotneedtomodifythepartitiontomake
thekeyprimary.
4. Useyourstoragemanagementsoftwaretorestorethedata.Thedatais
automaticallydecryptedusingthestoredkey.
