Secondary Analytical Methods
A Secondary Analytical Method will typically run alongside Primary Analytical Method.
You cannot run a Secondary Analytical Method without also running a Primary Analytical
Method. Some combinations of Primary and Secondary measurements are incompatible
due to differences in analytical processes in how measurements are performed.
Secondary Analytical Methods do not have an acid requirement because they run
alongside a Primary Analytical Method and do not require acid for analysis. The Primary
Analytical Method determines the Acid required for analysis for Primary Analytical
Methods, if required. See Table 6-2 on page 174
.
A Secondary Analytical Method will also require the purchase and installation of an
Optional Detector, either the ECD Detector (for NO Detection to measure TNb) or PID
Detector (for POC/VOC Detection to measure POC/VOC). For more information, see “B2
— ECD Detector Option (for NO Detection)” on page 43 and “B2 — PID Detector Option
(for POC/VOC Detection)” on page 44.
• POC/VOC Method can run alongside different Primary Analytical Methods.
► Important! The POC/VOC Method cannot run alongside TC Method
because there is no purging step in the TC Method.
• TNb Method is measured after going through combustion and can run along side
different Primary Analytical Methods.
► Important! The TNb Method cannot run alongside TIC Method since the
TIC Method does not utilize the Furnace.
• TOCa Method first determines POC (Purgeable Organic Carbon) followed by the
measurement of NPOC (Non-Purgeable Organic Carbon). The sum of POC and
NPOC represents the TOC result of the sample.
