Acid Preparation
1% Hydrochloric Acid (HCl)
Prepare this Acid for NPOC Mode. Important! Always add concentrated acid to water.
Do not add water to concentrated acid!
To prepare a 1% hydrochloric acid solution, fill a 1 L Class A volumetric flask half full with
DI water. Measure 22.55 mL of hydrochloric acid (concentrated, 37.5% acid, technical
grade) and transfer it into the prepared volumetric flask. Bring the flask to volume with DI
Water. Cap and invert to mix.
1% Phosphoric Acid (H

)
Prepare this Acid for TOC by Difference Mode / IC Mode. Important! Always add
concentrated acid to water. Do not add water to concentrated acid!
To prepare a 1% phosphoric acid solution, fill a 1 L Class A volumetric flask half full with
DI water. Measure 7.05 mL of phosphoric acid (concentrated, 85% acid, technical grade)

Warning

When handling components that contain sample, standards, waste
solution, or reagents, always wear eye protection and gloves.
