The HDD modules need not to be removed.

modules are uniquely identified so that you can reinsert them
into their original bays.

Removing the defective 12x 3.5-inch HDD backplane

If applicable, remove the SAS expander board holder, see "Removing the
SAS expander board holder" on page 208.

Remove the internal RAID riser module, see "Removing an internal RAID
riser module" on page 303.

Disconnect all cables from the HDD backplane.
