New Functions
PS3/PDF Direct Emulation (Clone PS)
Overview
This machine is equipped with a clone program for emulating Adobe PostScript/PDF (hereafter “Clone
PS”) as a standard feature. So, by default, it can perform printing using PostScript 3 and PDF Direct
Print, in addition to RPCS.
• What is Clone PS?
Based on the specifications of PostScript/PDF languages developed by Adobe, clone programs for
interpretation of PostScript and PDF documents have been created by various companies other
than Adobe. While the original program sold by the developer of the language is named Adobe PS,
compatible programs made by other manufacturers are called clones. Strictly speaking, these
clones must be fully compatible with the original program; however, they are called clones even if
they have some differences because they cannot completely imitate the original.
Clone PS is basically designed to perform similar functions to Adobe PS, except for several
differences such as the inability to use Adobe fonts.
• Adobe PS, previously offered as an optional product for past models, is available again as an
option. (SD card option.)
• Clone PS and Adobe PS cannot be run simultaneously.
• The same printer driver can be used for Clone PS and Adobe PS.
• Clone PS emulates Adobe PostScript 3 version 3017. (The version of Adobe PS used in the SD
card option is v. 3018.)
• For the PDF Direct Print function, Clone PS emulates Adobe PDF version 1.7.
How to Distinguish Adobe PS from Clone PS
In the operation panel screen, it is difficult to tell whether Adobe PS or Clone PS is in use.
Both "PS3" and "PDF" are shown on the screen, regardless of whether Adobe PS or Clone PS is used.
Identification can be done as follows:
