Purpose
This chapter contains information about the Session Initiation Protocol
(SIP) architecture and how it is integrated within the 5ESS

switch.
This chapter describes the SIP architecture from a:
• network view,
• system view,
• signaling view,
• hardware view, and
• security view.
Network View
The network view describes the SIP architecture at a network level
between network elements.
System View
The system view contains SIP architecture information within a
5ESS
®
switch.
Signaling View
The signaling view explains the following SIP signaling transports
• Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP)
• User Datagram Protocol (UDP)
