6.3.6 Lubrication
Some header components need to be lubricated periodically.
CAUTION
To avoid personal injury, before servicing header or opening drive covers, follow the procedures in 6.1 Preparing
Machine for Servicing, page 343.
Refer to the inside back cover for recommended lubricants.
Log hours of operation and use the Maintenance Record provided to keep a record of scheduled maintenance. For the
maintenance schedule, refer to 6.3.1 Maintenance Schedule/Record, page 345.
Service Intervals
Every 10 Hours
Use high temperature extreme pressure (EP2) performance with 1% max molybdenum disulphide (NLGI Grade 2) lithium
base unless otherwise specified.

Knife: Lubricate the knife every 10 hours or daily, except in
sandy conditions.
Every 25 Hours
Use high temperature extreme pressure (EP2) performance with 1% max molybdenum disulphide (NLGI Grade 2) lithium
base unless otherwise specified.

Knifehead: Lubricate the knifehead every 25 hours. Check for
signs of excessive heating on the first few guards after greasing.
If required, relieve the pressure by pressing the check-ball in the
grease fitting.
IMPORTANT:
To prevent binding and/or excessive wear caused by knife
pressure on the guards, do NOT overgrease the knifehead (A).
Apply only one to two pumps using a mechanical grease gun (do
NOT use an electric grease gun). If more than six to eight pumps
of the grease gun are required to fill the cavity, replace the seal
in the knifehead. Refer to 6.8.3 Removing Knifehead Bearing,
page 401.
