Metering and Monitoring
Monitoring
curve, the through-fault monitor increments the accumulated percentage by
100 percent. Since the impact of several smaller through-faults may not be as
severe as the impact of one large through-fault, careful attention must be given to
analyze not only the total accumulated value, but the incremental contribution of
each event.
Consider the accumulated percentage to be a through-fault counter, not a precise
indicator of transformer health. The through-fault counter can be likened to a gas
accumulation relay, which indicates the transformer should be examined but does
not indicate the transformer should be replaced.
Through-Fault Monitor Report (TFE Command)
Figure 5.28 displays the device response to the TFE (no other parameters)
command. The TFE command lists as many as 20 of the most recent through-
faults. “Total Number of Transformer Through Faults:” is the sum of the detected
through faults of all three phases since the last reset, with a maximum of 65,535
counts. “Number of n Phase Through Faults:” (n = A, B, C) refers to the through
faults detected for that particular phase since the last reset, also with a maximum
of 65,535 counts. The through-fault alarm state is either a 1 (indicating an alarm
state), or a 0 (indicating a normal state).

Figure 5.28 Result of the TFE Command
Following is a description of each column (#, Date, Time, etc.) of the event
report. Through-faults events are numbered (# column) from 1 (the most recent
event, at the top) up to a maximum of 500 through-faults events.
Under the date and time columns, the event shows the date of occurrence and the
start time of each event (The date format dependents upon the DATE_F setting).
