these Device Word bits to close alarm contacts. Once asserted, the HS1 or HS2
Device Word bits will stay asserted until the hot-spot temperature drops below
98 percent of the HST1 or HST2 setting, respectively.
When ETHERM = 3 or ETHERM = W, hot-spot temperatures are calculated for
each of the three individual windings. The HST1 or HST2 Device Word bits
assert when any of the three winding hot-spot values exceed the limits. The
thermal report will show which transformer/winding exceeded the limits.
Figure 5.18 Hot-Spot Temperature Limit Alarm Logic
Aging Acceleration Factor Limits (FAAL1, FAAL2)
Range: 0–599.99, in 0.01 steps
A transformer subjected to overload or temperature greater than the normal
transformer rating will age faster than the same transformer at rated load and
temperature. One of the outputs the thermal element provides is a transformer
insulation aging acceleration factor, which, when multiplied by elapsed time,
provides an indication of the loss-of-life of the transformer insulation. Should
load and temperature be higher than normal, this factor is greater than 100
percent. Should load and temperature be less than normal, the factor is less than
100 percent. FAAL1 and FAAL2 determine limits for the aging acceleration
factor. If the aging acceleration factor exceeds the limits, the FAA1 or FAA2
Device Word bit asserts. Using SEL
OGIC control equations, you can configure
these Device Word bits to close alarm contacts. Once asserted, the FAA1 or
FAA2 Device Word bits will stay asserted until the aging acceleration factor
drops below 99 percent of the FAAL1 or FAAL2 setting, respectively.
When ETHERM = 3 or ETHERM = W, aging acceleration factors are calculated
for each of the three individual windings. The FAA1 or FAA2 Device Word bit
asserts when any of the three values exceed the limits. The thermal report will
show which transformer/winding was above the limits.
