12. Push the source handle forward to its stop, to insert the chamber
assembly in the outer source.
13. Tighten the security lock thumbscrew.
Degassing the ion source assembly
After performing maintenance on the chamber assembly, you must degas the
ion source assembly.
To degas the ion source assembly
1. On the MassLynx Tune window’s EI+ Source tab, set Source Temp (C) to
300 to 350.
2. Allow the source to degas at this temperature for at least 1 hour, and
preferably overnight.
To condition a new filament
1. Ensure the instrument is in Standby mode.
2. Put the instrument in CI mode, regardless of the ion source fitted.
3. Set the electron energy to 70 eV.
4. Set the filament emission slider to 0.
5. Put the instrument in Operate mode.
6. Set the filament emission to 0.2 mA.
7. Increase the filament emission by 0.2 mA every minute until the
maximum emission is reached.
8. Leave the emission at maximum for 5 minutes.
9. Reduce the emission to 0.2 mA over the course of a minute.
10. Put the instrument in Standby mode.
The filament is now conditioned and ready to use in whichever ion mode it is
designed for.
