11. Push the probe handle forwards until it reaches its stop, insert the probe
sample cup into the source.
Removing the probe from the ion source
To remove the solids sample introduction probe from the ion source
1. In the MassLynx Tune window, click Press for Standby and confirm that
the adjacent instrument status indicator shows red.
2. Retract the probe handle until it reaches its stop.
3. Rotate the probe handle so that the guide slot is no longer aligned with
the guide pin.
4. Wait for 2 minutes, to allow the probe to cool.
5. Ensure that the source side lock pump valve is closed.
Tip: The source side lock pump valve is closed when its handle is at right
angles to the associated pipework.
6. Ensure that the probe is fully retracted.
Warning: The source and probe components can be contaminated with
toxic materials. Wear nitrile gloves at all times while handling the
components.
Warning: The probe can be hot. To avoid burns, take great care when
handling the probe components.
