7-68 Routine maintenance
5. Fit a 2-mm ceramic spacer over each 3.5-mm ceramic spacer.
6. Fit the screws, spacers, and contact to the contact support plate.
7. Fit a 2-mm ceramic spacer over each 3.5-mm ceramic spacer.
8. Fit a washer to each screw.
9. Fit and tighten a nut to each screw.
10. Repeat steps 1 to 9 for the second repeller contact.
To assemble the filament contacts
1. Fit a washer to a M1.6 × 8-mm screw.
2. Fit a 3.5-mm ceramic spacer to the screw.
3. Fit the appropriate connecting lead over the 3.5-mm ceramic spacer.
4. Fit a 2-mm ceramic spacer over the 3.5-mm ceramic spacer.
5. Fit the screw and spacers to the contact support plate.
6. Fit a 2-mm ceramic spacer over the 3.5-mm ceramic spacer.
7. Fit a filament contact to the screws, with the contact facing away from
the screw head.
8. Fit a washer to the screw.
9. Fit and finger-tighten a nut to the screw.
10. Insert a 2-mm ceramic spacer between the contact and the contact
support plate, to coincide with one of the holes for the ceramic supports.
11. Fully tighten the nut.
Tip: Perform the steps 10 and 11 when assembling the outer source; the
spacers are not captive until the ceramic supports are in position.
12. Repeat steps 1 to 11 for the second filament contact.
Assembling the ion chamber
To fit the source magnets
1. Fit the first magnet to the ion block.
2. Fit the stainless steel cap to the inner end of the magnet.
