Cleaning ion burn from the outer source assembly components
To clean the ceramic components
Clean the ceramic components by heating to red heat using a blue (not yellow)
flame. If this does not clean the ceramic components, replace with new
components.
To clean the shields
Using 9-mµ lapping paper, clean the shields.
Tip: The shields are easily damaged; if spares are available, discard the old
shields and fit new shields.
To clean the probe contact assembly contacts
Using 9-mµ lapping paper, clean the probe contact assembly contact faces.
To clean the contact rail contacts
Using a glass-fiber pencil or 9-mµ lapping paper, clean the contact rail contact
faces.
Warning: The outer source assembly components can be contaminated
with toxic materials. Wear nitrile gloves at all times while handling
the components.
Caution: Thin ceramic components are fragile and easily broken when
cleaning by heating.
