Source maintenance 7-65
To clean metal components
1. If any metal part has ion burn, use a glass-fiber pencil or 9-mµ lapping
paper to clean the burnt areas.
2. On a clean, lint-free cloth, mix a little aluminum oxide powder into a
paste with methanol.
3. Use a cotton bud to apply the paste to clean all the metal parts.
Contact leads
If any contact leads are dirty, replace all the leads as a complete set.
Ultrasonically cleaning the outer source assembly components
To ultrasonically clean the outer source assembly components
1. Immerse all the metallic components (including the screws and
washers), in glass vessels containing a recommended solvent.
Tip: Place the components for each sub-assembly in individual
containers to facilitate identification for re-assembly.
2. Place the vessel in the ultrasonic bath for 30 minutes.
Recommendation: Depending on the nature of the contamination,
repeat steps 1 and 2 with different solvents to achieve thorough
cleaning of the components.
3. Carefully remove the components from the vessel.
Warning: Cleaning the outer source assembly components requires the
use of solvents and chemicals that can be flammable and hazardous to
health.
Warning: The outer source assembly components can be contaminated
with toxic materials. Wear nitrile gloves at all times while handling
the components.
Caution: To avoid damage, do not clean the ceramic components in the
ultrasonic bath.
Caution: To avoid re-contaminating the components following
cleaning, use clean, lint-free cotton gloves during assembly.
