1-18 Instrument description
pressure at the back of the diffusion (fine) pump. In the event of a loss of
current to the fore pump (signifying a pump or power failure) or a critical
increase of the pressure behind the diffusion pump to stalling level (indicating
a fore pump failure), the soft-vent valve opens, admitting a slow flow of gas to
the analyzer. This functionality generates a positive pressure differential
across the diffusion pump until the oil has cooled, preventing the expulsion of
oil from the pump into the analyses. You can use argon or nitrogen in the
soft-vent facility. If you use nitrogen, the gas supply must be dry and of high
purity (99.9%). Regulate the supply to <1 bar (15 psi/100 kPa).
See “Starting up the instrument” on page C-1 for information on setting-up
the soft-vent facility.
EPC power switch
Use the EPC power switch to power-on, power-off, and reboot the embedded
PC (EPC).
