Ionization techniques
Electron Impact (EI) ionization
Electron impact is the classical ionization technique in which gas phase
sample molecules are ionized in collisions with high energy electrons produced
by a heated filament. You can fragment the ionized molecules by this
mechanism, producing spectral information.
