Removing the outer source assembly from the instrument
To remove the outer source assembly from the instrument
1. In the MassLynx Tune window, click Press for Standby and confirm that
the adjacent instrument status indicator shows red.
2. On the Vacuum tab, clear the Analyser check box.
Rationale: Doing so closes the solenoid-operated analyzer isolation
valve.
3. On the EI+ Source tab, set Source Temp (
o
C) to 0.
4. On the Inlets tab, set all the parameters to 0.
5. Wait 30 minutes for the source to cool.
6. On the Vacuum tab, clear the Source check box.
Rationale: Doing so closes the pneumatically operated source isolation
valve.
7. Turn the status switch to the Isolate position.

8. Open the source vent valve (on the left-hand side of the source lock) by
turning counterclockwise, to vent the lock volume.
9. Retract the GC column by at least 2 inches (50 mm).
10. If fitted, remove the solids sample introduction probe from the source.
See “Removing the probe from the ion source” on page 6-13.
Warning: The source components can be contaminated with toxic
materials. Wear nitrile gloves at all times while handling the
components.
Caution: To avoid damaging the GC column and inner source chamber
assembly, retract the GC column before removing the probe and inner
source.
Warning: The source can be hot. To avoid burns, take great care
when handling the source components.
