noise about the mean (EPA 8290 definition, ≈ 2 standard deviations,
that is. ±σ about the mean).
These values are based on a GC peak width at half height of 2 seconds;
for other values, the signal-to-noise ratio can be calculated by assuming
a relationship inversely proportional to GC peak width. The cycle time
for selecting all six masses is about 0.5 seconds. At least 1 pg of

-2,3,7,8-TCDD is co-injected with the 100 fg standard.
On smoothed data, where the GC peak width is increased by no more
than 25%, the signal-to-noise ratios can be increased by a factor of 1.4,
that is, S/N ≥ 140:1 (4σ noise definition) or S/N ≥ 280:1 (2σ noise
definition).
