Pump Reassembly
1. Make sure that all pump components are perfectly
clean and lubricated with hydraulic oil to be used in
the pump, prior to assembly.
2. Place the O-rings (index 5) onto the Plug end and
the Port end of the Priority Valve and assemble re-
maining components in order they were removed.
Torque at 50-60 Nm (36.9-44.3 ft lbs).
3. Lubricate the O-ring (index 3) and seat it at the
front of the lift pump. Apply grease (063002-038) to
splined shaft and attach the pump to the motor.
4. Insert the bolts into the pump body and hand
tighten into tapped holes in the mounting flange of
the motor. Torque at 27 Nm (37 ft lbs).
Start Up Procedure
This procedure will cover the steps to be taken when
first starting a pump on a vehicle that has had any of
the following operations performed:
1. The pump has been replaced or an existing pump
has been removed and reinstalled.
2. The pump suction line has been replaced or the
pump suction line has been removed and rein-
stalled.
3. The reservoir has been drained and refilled.
4. Any other operation that may cause the pump to
lose its prime.
Before proceeding, Review the Control of Hazardous
Energy, Lockout/Tagout and Hydraulic Sections of this
manual.
Follow these steps when starting the pump. Refer to
figure 16082 for pump connection points.
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Remove the steer pressure hose from the pump
and plug using 064335-006.
3. Connect an extra hose (064322-003) to the pump
steer pressure port. Direct the other end of the
hose into a container that will catch the oil during
the startup procedure. Note: Either secure the
hose to the container or have someone hold the
hose directing it into the container in a safe man-
ner. Oil coming from the hose will be at a velocity
high enough to cause the hose to move if not se-
cured or held. There may also be significant
splashing of oil so it is recommended that the con-
tainer be covered.
4. Connect the battery.
5. Power up the truck.
6. Move the lift lever to the maximum lift speed posi-
tion for 2 seconds then return to neutral. Look for
oil at the pump steer pressure port. Repeat this
procedure until oil comes from the steer pressure
port. If flow can not be established after 7 attempts,
check for the following:
– Proper oil level in reservoir.
– Suction line is connected and clamped.
– Suction line is obstructed. This includes the
suction strainer and the suction hose.
– Steer pressure hose is loose at the pump.
7. When flow has been established at the steer pres-
sure port, remove the extra hose from the pump
steer pressure port, remove the plug from the steer
pressure hose, reconnect the steer pressure hose
to the pump and torque to 24.5-27.1 Nm
(18-20 ft lb).
8. Exercise steering and mast functions. Check for
proper oil level. Adjust as required.
