Service Brake
Truck braking is accomplished by using the traction
motors for slowing and stopping the truck.
Truck braking is available three different ways:
1. Plugging by reverse of accelerator control handle
using motor torque.
2. Service brake by lifting brake pedal to apply dy-
namic motor torque.
3. Parking brake, which uses an electrically released,
spring applied mechanical brake when truck is-
keyed OFF.
When the operator leaves the truck ON, the parking
brake is applied at the opening of the ED contactor (ap-
proximately five seconds after leaving operator com-
partment). While ED is engaged, the traction controller
powers the motors for position hold feature. The park-
ing brake is also applied when the truck is keyed OFF.
The electric parking brakes are mounted on the traction
motors. There are no adjustments to this brake.
Plugging Distance
Truck warm up consists of six trips over the test course,
alternating direction (forks last/forks first). Truck is ac-
celerated from a dead stop at the maximum rate, and
then plugged to a stop at the maximum rate at the
12.2 m (40.0 ft) location on the test course.
Ensure test course is 12.2 m (40.0 ft) in length on a
level, smooth, dry concrete surface. No load is present
on forks.
Determine the plugging distance through test course
as follows:
1. Ensure travel direction is forks first.
2. Align drive tire contact point with the start of test
course.
3. Accelerate to maximum speed.
4. Perform a maximum plug at the 12.2 m (40.0 ft) lo-
cation and record the distance to stop the truck.
Stopping distance should be within the approxi-
mate range listed in the following chart.
5. To adjust plugging, use ACCESS 1 and access P5
Performance menu in level 2. Adjust the effort to a
higher or lower setting. The higher the setting, the
shorter the distance; the lower the setting, the
longer the distance.
