Drive Unit Removal
Make sure lifting device is sufficiently rated to lift truck. 
Keep all hands, feet etc. away from unit being raised. 
Never work under or around a truck that is not properly 
secured. Refer to truck Data Plate for truck weight in-
formation.
1. Disconnect the battery and chock drive tires. Refer 
to Control of Hazardous Energy chapter.
2. Remove front power unit cover.
3. Remove the mast. Refer to "Removing Mast" pro-
cedures in the Control of Hazardous Energy sec-
tion of the service manual.
4. Block the power unit so drive tires are just off the 
floor.
5. Disconnect all electrical connections to the traction 
motor and brake.
6. Remove the drive tire and string guard (if 
equipped). Refer to Drive Tire Replacement in this 
section.
7. Support the weight of the drive unit while removing 
the eight screws that secure the drive unit to the 
chassis.
Drive unit is heavy, approximately 57 kg (125 lb), ex-
cluding motor, brake, gear lube and tire/hub assembly.
8. Remove the drive unit and take to a clean area as 
needed for repair.
Drive Unit Installation
1. Install the drive unit to the chassis using the eight 
screws.
2. Torque the screws to 339 Nm (250 ft lb).
3. Install the drive tire. Refer to Drive Tire Replace-
ment in this section for proper procedures and 
torque specifications.
4. Reconnect all electrical connections to the motor 
and brake. Torque traction motor power cable ter-
minal nuts to 23 - 24 Nm (17.0 - 17.7 ft lb).
5. Install the string guard (if equipped) and drive tire. 
Refer to Drive Tire Replacement for proper proce-
dures and lug nut torque specifications.
6. Remove the power unit blocking.
7. Chock the drive tires.
8. Install the mast (reverse mast removal steps). Re-
fer to parts pages for screw/bolt torque specifica-
tions.
9. Replace the front power unit cover.
10. Connect the battery and remove the chocks.
Verify proper truck operation.
