10. Disconnect lift chains from the inner mast.
11. With the lifting device connected to the top of the
inner mast, raise until it can be pulled from the in-
termediate mast. Remove column rollers and
shims, making sure of the number and position of
all shims for reference at reassembly. Lay the inner
mast aside and proceed to the top of intermediate
mast.
12. Remove column rollers from top of the intermedi-
ate mast. Record the number and position of all
shims.
13. Attach a lifting device to top of intermediate mast
and raise high enough to allow the hydraulic hoses
and lift chains to be pulled clear of rollers in top of
intermediate mast.
14. Lower intermediate mast completely and remove
retaining rings that secure the mast cylinder to the
top of the intermediate mast. Remove both internal
stops near the top of outer mast. The intermediate
mast will have to be raised nearly to its maximum
in order to gain access to the internal stops through
web of the intermediate mast.
15. After removing the internal stops, continue to raise
the intermediate mast until it can be pulled from the
top of the outer mast. Remove column rollers from
bottom of the intermediate mast and the top of the
outer mast. Record the number and position of all
shims for reference at reassembly.
16. Disconnect hydraulic lines at the base of the two
mast cylinders. Support cylinders and remove the
pins (index 1) and cotter pins (index 2) that connect
at the top of the outer mast. Refer to Figure 16948.
Move cylinders to a clean work area if further dis-
assembly is required.
Removal From Power Unit
If the amount of overhead room will not allow the masts
to be raised enough for removal, the mast assembly
will need to be unbolted from the power unit and laid
down.
1. Remove load backrest and forks. Lower mast cyl-
inders completely.
2. Disconnect and remove battery.
3. Cycle lift, sideshift and accessory levers a few
times to assure hydraulic pressure is relieved from
system.
4. Disconnect cables and hydraulic lines from power
unit to mast assembly. Use container to catch hy-
draulic oil.
5. Remove height switch. Disconnect wire cable at
power unit and pull out into mast area.
6. Connect a hoist to the top cross brace of the outer
mast. Remove retaining ring holding each tilt cylin-
der to mast.
7. Raise and block power unit so that drive wheels
are off of ground 6 to 12 mm (0.25 to 0.50 in). Re-
move drive wheels and then remove pivot blocks
and mast from power unit.
8. Lay mast on floor on its back side (side that nor-
mally faces the operator).
9. Refer to Disassembly Procedure in this section if
further disassembly is required.
With the mast assembly laid down, the cylinder and
mast assemblies must be removed by making all hook-
ups with hoist as near the center of the assembly as
possible to maintain balance.
