Electric Parking Brake Release Pro-
cedures
The following is a list of procedures for towing a dis-
abled truck. Depending upon the distance the truck
may have to be towed one procedure may be more ap-
propriate of an option than some of the other proce-
dures. Choose the procedure that best fits the situa-
tion.
Extreme care must be taken when using any of the fol-
lowing procedures to release the parking brake. The
truck's parking brakes will not be functional and the
brake pedal in the operator compartment will not apply
the parking brakes in all of the listed procedures. The
parking brake will only be able to be applied when the
truck is returned to normal parking brake configuration.
During any procedure, lockout and tagout the truck as
described in Control Of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/
Tagout in the Service And Parts Manual.
When towing the truck, make sure all operators are in-
formed of the truck's lack of braking.
Once the truck is in an area intended for maintenance,
chock wheels or make sure truck is secure to prevent it
from moving while the brakes are released.
If truck is not returned to normal braking configuration
after towing, then the truck should remain locked out
and tagged accordingly.
Releasing Parking Brake Using
Operator Display
Battery must be present in truck for this procedure.
• This procedure is for moving the truck a short dis-
tance as this procedure allows for the truck to only
be moved for intervals of five minutes at one time
then the brake is applied.
Key truck ON and navigate to the Service menu level
3, Utilities menu level U2 (Tow-Mode). At this level a
password is required to enter this mode.
• All traction is inhibited and steer pump will be ac-
tive if operator is present.
• Message on ACCESS 1 will read: TOW? Y 5 Min-
utes BRAKE RELEASED. Press enter key to re-
lease parking brakes.
• If additional time is needed to tow the truck the five
minute period can be restarted following the above
procedures.
To apply the parking brakes while in Tow-Mode the
action can be cancelled by pressing the down arrow
key and then answering TOW? N or keying truck OFF
will apply the parking brakes.
• When in Tow-Mode, if the operator is not present
(not standing on the presence pedal) and either
drive wheel moves an audible alarm will sound.
• Once the truck is in an area intended for mainte-
nance and re-apply the parking brakes by using
ACCESS 1 or by keying truck OFF to return to nor-
mal braking configuration. If truck is not returned to
normal braking configuration after towing, then the
truck should remain locked out and tagged accord-
ingly.
