3-36 Scanning techniques
To enter the parameters in the VSIR function editor
1. Enter the required instrument parameter file name and path in the
AutoSpec Parameter File text box, or click Brows.
2. Delete the default mass in the SIR Masses list by clicking on it and then
clicking Delete.
3. Click Add.
4. In the SIR Mass dialog box specify the first mass to be monitored by the
function.
5. In the Channel Time (ms) text box, set the time for which this mass is to
be monitored, typically 50 to 150 ms.
6. In the Delay Time (ms) text box, set the time delay between finishing
monitoring the previous mass and starting monitoring this mass (in the
SIR Masses list), typically 10 to 50 ms, but set the instrument’s larger
values for larger differences between monitored masses.
7. If required, select Use as Lock Mass.
Rationale: You can specify one mass in the SIR Masses list as a
lock-mass; this vale is used to automatically update the instrument’s
calibration.
8. Click OK.
Result: The details entered in the SIR Mass dialog box are added to the
SIR Masses list.
9. Repeat steps 3 to 8, as required, to enter the remaining masses to be
monitored.
10. Enter an appropriate value, for example 6 minutes, in the Start Time
(min) text box.
Tip: Start the first function in a function list before the sample starts
eluting from the column. Set the start time to account for the solvent
front and the retention time of the first eluting analyte.
11. Enter an appropriate value, for example 20 minutes, in the End Time
(min) text box.
12. Type an appropriate value, for example 10000, in the Resolution text
box.
