Monitor and Maintain Interfaces
Monitor interface statistics with the monitor interface command. This command displays an ongoing list of
the interface status (up/down), number of packets, traffic statistics, etc.
The information displays in a continuous run, refreshing every 2 seconds by default as shown in the
example below. Use the following keys to manage the output.

Command Syntax Command Mode Purpose
monitor interface interface EXEC Privilege View the interface’s statistics. Enter the type of interface and
slot/port information:
• For a 10/100/1000 Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
GigabitEthernet followed by the slot/port information.
• For a Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
GigabitEthernet followed by the slot/port information.
• For the Management interface on the RPM, enter the
keyword
ManagementEthernet followed by the slot/port
information.
• For a SONET interface, enter the keyword sonet
followed by slot/port information.
• For a 10 Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
TenGigabitEthernet followed by the slot/port
information.
• For a 40-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
fortyGigE followed by the slot/port information.
m - Change mode c - Clear screen
l - Page up a - Page down
T - Increase refresh interval (by 1 second) t - Decrease refresh interval (by 1 second)
q - Quit
