d. Position snap ring on upper end of shaft and
hold in place with block of wood. Strike wood
block with hammer, thus forcing snap ring
over end of shaft. Slide snap ring down into
groove.

e. Assemble thrust collar on shaft with shoulder
next to snap ring.
f. Position retainer and thrust collar next to
snap ring. Then, using two pliers, grip retainer
and thrust collar and squeeze until snap ring
is forced into retainer.

6. Apply a thin coating of Quicksilver 2-4-C Marine
Lubricant with Teflon to roller bearing in drive
housing.
7. Insert shaft and drive assembly into drive hous-
ing. Pins of drive must be snapped into holes of
shift lever. Thrust collar must be in place before
shaft is inserted in housing roller bearing.

8. Install shield. Align brush lead and solenoid ter-
minal when inserting armature into planetary
gears.
