8.4 Serial Communication (RS-232)
The EPOCH 1000 Series comes standard with a serial communications (RS-232) port.
Serial communication uses pins on the combined VGA/RS-232 output connector
located in the computer connection compartment on the right side of the instrument.
Through serial communication, you are able to connect the EPOCH
1000 Series to a
computer for communication with the EPOCH
1000 Series’ computer interface
program, GageView Pro.
Serial communication also allows remote command of the EPOCH 1000 Series. For
more information, please see section
8.6 on page 132.
8.5 USB Communication
The EPOCH 1000 Series comes standard with four USB ports:
One USB Client port, located in the computer connection compartment.
Two USB Host ports, located in the computer connection compartment.
One USB Host port, located inside the battery compartment.
8.5.1 USB Client
The USB Client port is used for computer communication. USB client allows a
peripheral device to pass commands to the EPOCH
1000 Series, but does not allow
the EPOCH
1000 Series to command a peripheral device. The USB Client port is the
standard port for communication with the EPOCH
1000 Series’ computer interface
program, GageView
Pro.
8.5.2 USB Host
The USB Host ports allow the EPOCH 1000 Series to pass commands to peripheral
USB devices. The EPOCH
1000 Series has the ability to interact with the following
devices using the USB Host ports:
USB printers using the PCL5 printer control language.
•USB mouse
•USB keyboard
•USB storage device
