Calibrating the EPOCH 1000 Series (Phased Array Mode) 305
Sensitivity (gain), especially when calibrated using multiple depths, builds a two-
dimensional (2-D) TVG curve on the S-scan image (across depths and focal laws). This
gain correction is helpful in most defect interpretation and sizing situations, but this
varying gain adjustment does not represent the “natural” response of the defect.
To toggle either calibration on or off
Choose 1/5 > PA Cal > Active.
17.7 Curved Surface Correction
The EPOCH 1000 Series allows surface distance correction when inspecting pipes,
cylinders, and other curved surfaces using an angle beam transducer. This applies
only to inspections where the surface of the test piece is curved in the direction of the
sound path of the transducer. This feature corrects the horizontal distance and depth-
to-reflector measurements based on part thickness and part diameter.
The EPOCH 1000 Series allows you to correct for curved surface inspections where
the transducer is placed on the outer diameter of the part, as well as inspections from
the inner diameter. For more information regarding the activation of curved surface
correction, see chapter
12 on page 239.
