3.4 Basic Procedures
The procedures contained in the following sections provide step-by-step information
to perform basic tasks that you should quickly learn. The detail contained in these
basic procedures is not repeated in the more complex procedures available in this
document.
3.4.1 Navigating in the Menu Structure
The following procedure provides generic instructions to navigate in the menu
structure.
To choose a menu, a submenu, and a parameter value
1. Ensure that the focus is on one of the submenu buttons using one of the following
methods (see section
3.1.3 on page 54 for details on the focus concept):
a) Press one of the [F<n>] function key.
b) Press [ESCAPE] to return to the parent level in the menu hierarchy. Press the
number of times needed to move the focus back to the submenu level.
c) With a USB mouse connected to the instrument, click a submenu button.
d) With a USB keyboard connected to the instrument, press the ESC key the
number of times needed to move the focus back to the menu level.
2. Select the desired menu using one of the following methods:
a) Slowly turn the adjustment knob until the desired submenus appear on the
right side of the software main display.
b) Press the [RIGHT] or the [LEFT] arrow keys until the desired submenus
appear on the right side of the software main display.
c) With a USB mouse connected to the instrument, rotate the wheel of the mouse
until the desired submenus appear on the right side of the software main
display.
d) With a USB keyboard connected to the instrument, press the right or the left
arrow keys until the desired submenus appear on the right side of the
software main display.
The menu indicator identifies the selected menu (see section 3.1.1 on page 50
for details on the menu structure).
3. Select the desired submenu using one of the following methods:
a) Press the [F<n>] function key corresponding to the desired submenu button.
