5. Move the probe forward and backward to bring the echo to its maximum
amplitude (peak). Ensure that the echoes do not exceed 100
%. Reduce the gain
setting if necessary.
6. Use the [GATE] key to position gate 1 around the first back-wall echo.
If it is unclear from the S-scan, use the A-scan to position the gate start and width
positions so that only the first back-wall reflection is in the gated region.
7. Use the [GATE] key to position gate 1 so that the first reflection from the arc of the
block is exceeding the gate threshold.
This reflection should be close to 4 in. (100 mm).
8. Adjust the gain so that the echo amplitude is at approximately 80 %.
