The gated region must capture the wedge delay indication for all focal laws. If the
wedge delay indication is out of the gated region for any focal law during
calibration, the instrument does not properly calculate wedge delay for that/those
focal laws.
17.4.3 Calibrating the Sensitivity (Gain) With an Angle Beam Transducer
Sensitivity (gain) can be calibrated using a discrete reflector, such as a side-drilled
hole, or a back-wall reflection. In the example below, the small side-drilled hole of the
IIW block is used to calculate sensitivity (gain).
To calibrate the sensitivity with an angle beam transducer
1. Press [RANGE], and then enter an appropriate range for the calibration.
For this example, use 2 in. (50 mm).
2. Choose 1/5 > PA Cal > Calibration = CAL Gain.
3. Press [ANGLE], and then adjust the selected focal law (angle) to 45°.
4. Couple the transducer to the IIW block over the side-drilled hole.
5. Use the [GATE] key to position gate 1 to surround only the first reflection from
the side-drilled hole.
6. Adjust the gain so that the echo amplitude is at approximately 80 %.
