17.3.2 Calibrating the Wedge Delay With a Zero Degree Transducer
Wedge delay can be calibrated using a discrete reflector, such as a side-drilled hole, or
a back-wall reflection. In the following example the first back wall of the IIW block is
used to calculate the wedge delay.
To calibrate the wedge delay with a zero degree transducer
1. Press [RANGE] to enter an appropriate range for the calibration.
For this example, use 10 in. (254 mm).
2. Select 1/5 > PA CAL > CAL Mode = CAL Zero.
3. Press [ANGLE], and then adjust the selected focal law (angle) to 0°.
4. Couple the transducer to the side of the block.
5. Use the [GATE] key to position gate 1 to surround only the first back-wall echo
from the block.
6. Adjust the gain so that the echo amplitude is at approximately 80 %.
