250 Chapter 13
In RF rectification, the S-scan palette changes to allow for positive and negative
amplitude values.
13.3.2 Video Filtering
The EPOCH 1000 Series allows video filtering in phased array mode. Video filtering is
a digital algorithm that mathematically smoothes the shape of each A-scan. By
smoothing the shape of each acquired A-scan, the instrument produces a smoothed
S-scan image that is easier to interpret.
Video filtering is common in phased array applications to provide a clean S-scan
image. However, this smoothing can obscure small indications from the A-scan. It
is recommended to avoid video filtering in applications where you rely on fine A-
scan interpretation to characterize potential defects.
