12.2 Beam Setup Page
The Beam setup page (shown in Figure 12-1 on page 240) allows simplified
adjustments of phased array probe and wedge parameters that must be defined prior
to calibration and inspection. The Beam setup page is automatically displayed when a
new phased array probe is attached to the instrument. It can also be accessed by
choosing 1/5
> PA Probe > Beam.

The EPOCH 1000 Series phased array mode provides a sector scan (S-scan) image
with associated A-scans. This S-scan creates an image using amplitude information
from the full sound path range of multiple A-scans. The image is built by acquiring
A-scans in regular increments between two fixed angles. For example, a common
S-scan image uses A-scans from 40° to 70° in 1° increments to create an image of an
inspection piece. If the sound path range is set to 4
in., this S-scan would represent all
reflections in the test piece from 40° to 70° within a 4
in. sound path of the transducer.
