Highly Attenuating Material
In many highly attenuating materials, such as many composites, it takes a large
amount of gain to successfully penetrate to the back wall of a particular part. This
high level of gain can cause significant noise in nearer areas of the part and
completely obscure any potential defects in the beginning half of the inspected
material. A TVG table can be used to modify the gain throughout the part to allow for
clear visibility of the back wall for thickness measurement and clearer inspection of
near-surface reflectors. An initial gain can be established and a slope defined to ramp
the gain up from the interface of the part to the back wall.
11.2.8.1 TVG Table Setup
The TVG table option can be used to define a TVG curve using a test block and size
reflectors without ever entering and/or editing specific TVG points. This operation is
similar to any of the DAC setups described earlier in this section. The TVG curve
defined with the TVG table option uses the following parameter functions in the 6/6
>
TVG Setup submenu:
Add
Add TVG point.
Delete
Delete only gated point(s) of the TVG (used to correct errors during setup).
Erase
Erase the entire TVG setup and start over.
11.2.8.2 Customized TVG Table Setup
To customize a TVG setup using the TVG table function, use the 6/6 > TVG Table
parameters.
TVGTable On
Displays the TVG table so you can refer to, or edit, points in the customized TVG
setup.
TVGTable Off
Hides the TVG table so you have a larger view of the live A-scan.
Edit
Enters the TVG table to allow point-by-point editing.
